Blue Moon
Chapter 4
I watched the clock ticked lifelessly as Mom and Dad discuss what to do with Dad's raise. I walked out quietly, avoiding Dad and Mom to see me walk away.
I wanted to be alone. I went upstairs into my room. I turned on the television and become disappointed by the news. They never gave anything sensible nowadays, All they do is focus on the numerous anonymous deaths of people in our town. Everyone is annoyed. I wanted to help and maybe this is the right time to investigate what is happening in our town. I turned off the TV and lay down on my bed. I can't even sleep. Demi is still lingering on my mind and I couldn't help but to think of her every now and then. I finally decided to close my eyes and get some sleep.
I opened my eyes and a dim light rays were passing through my windows. I stretched my arms and stood up. I opened the windows and let the morning breeze brush through my cheeks. I grabbed my chair and sat beside the window placing my arms at the bottom corner of the window. I stayed there for a while. I actually wanted to see Demi again. I even memorized her class schedules and today she would probably go out about 7:30. I looked at the clock hanging above my dresser. it was 7:15 already. I quickly changed into my normal school outfit. A pair of white sneakers, a wine red t-shirt and a simple blue jeans. I hurried back to see if Demi was out already and she was. I grabbed my bag and ran downstairs.
"Selena, Breakfast is ready" Mom called. but I ignored her and hurried outside to catch up with Demi besides our school is not that far from our house.
"Mom, sorry I gotta go" I said as I opened the door and ran outside.
Demi was right in front of me. She was holding her cellphone and probably texting someone. I wanted to talk to her but I couldn't. Demi turned around. I freaked out and hid behind a tree. She continued walking forward and I seemed like a stalker to her. I walked silently and tried to follow her again and we arrived at our school without Demi noticing that I followed her.
"Selena" I turned around to the voice who called out my name.
"Taylor" I hugged her.
"Are you following Demi" I blushed. I wasn't expecting her to ask that question.
"What?!" I groaned. "No, No, No..." I lied.
"Woah, no need to be defensive!"
"Well then, let's hurry, classes will begin shortly"
Taylor knew Demi and I had drifted apart but She didn't know that I was secretly in love with Demi ever since she moved in our town.
We were walking along the corridor when I saw Demi. I smiled to myself that I can finally see her again. She was standing next to Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas. Demi's new found friends I must say. She was happily chatting with Miley and I could even hear Nick's loud laughter and that's when I realized that Demi had forgotten me. It pains my heart just to think about it but that's just the way it is.
"Are you okay" I blinked my eyes and turned around to taylor.
"Oh," I said softly. "I'm perfect" and I lied again.
I took another glimpse of Demi before entering our room. It saddens me that Demi is not my classmate that made me miss her, a lot.
Sighing, I placed my bag under the chair beside Taylor that was placed in the front row.
"Something's up?" Taylor asked. Her voice seemed worried. "You're not the goofy Selena that I know" Her voice was flat making me wanna tell her about my problem with Demi.
"I'm fine" I smiled. "Come on, Some people just need their moments" I hit her shoulders with my arms, softly.
She nodded and smiled. "Okay, because you said so"
I tried keeping my smile so that taylor wouldn't notice me anymore. I don't wanna lie to her but I have to.
"Selena, Have you decided?"
"What?" I said as I sat down my chair.
"I wanted to go to Los Angeles or probably Arizona"
"Oh," I saw Demi walking outside and My eyes quickly watched her, Ignoring Taylor. I missed almost everything that Taylor said.
"Umm...Hello? Are you even listening?" Taylor said angrily. "Earth to Selena? Hello?" She snapped her fingers and I shook my head and looked back to her.
"Sorry, What was that again?"
Taylor sighed. "I said, Demi said yes she is going to come with us" I suddenly focused my whole attention to Taylor.
"What?"
"Yes, I know you got this issue with Demi, I'm sorry for bringing her with us but she is my friend too"
I shook my head. "No, no, no," I tapped Taylor's hand. "It's okay" I said.
There was this overwhelming feeling that I can't explain. I'm happy that she is coming, No, I'm very, very happy that she is coming.
"Great!" Taylor smiled. "I'm happy that you understand."
"and I'm coming along" I said. Taylor screamed and stood up she ran to me and she squeezed her arms really tightly around me.
"Oh My Gosh! Thank you, Thank you!"

Chapter 3 Enthusiasm
I hurried to the simmering pot on the stove so it could occupy itself without me. Grabbing my coat from the hooks on the wall, I pulled open the sliding door to the deck.
Cool air bit my cheeks and pinched at the top of my ears, reminding me that summer was officially over. I squinted at the edge of the yard and stepped off the deck, trying to look nonchalant as I did. The piece of beef in my hand felt cold and slick.
I crunched out across the brittle, colorless grass into the middle of the yard and stopped, momentarily dazzled by the violent pink of the sunset through the fluttering black leaves of the trees. This stark landscape was a world away from the small, warm kitchen with its comforting smells of easy survival. Where I was supposed to belong. Where I should've wanted to be.
I waited for Demi to peek outside her house. Just a glimpse of her would probably make me feel better. It was a Desire to see or talk to her that had been tugging me with disconcerting frequency these days.
I held my hands up and whispered an enchantment. A soft blue light covered Demi's house. It was a protection enchantment. It would instantly paralyze anyone who will try to break into Demi's house and only I could reverse the spell. I pointed my hands to Demi's house and whispered the closing enchantment spell.
"Promise me to always protect this house. A spell that will only be broken at my command" The soft blue light that covered Demi's house slowly faded away. That's the cue that the spell has been successful.
Finally the long wait was over, I saw her walking outside her house. She caught me staring at her. I didn't hide from her but instead I remembered the day when we first met the same feeling was perfectly brought back to me. the overwhelming feeling when I see her eyes staring back to me, it was priceless.
She stared at me for a minute longer, motionless, unblinking. She held my gaze for a long moment. I felt my heart stopped and I was left there keeping this moment as fragile as a bird I felt like she wanted to say something to me. I wanted to break the huge wall of Ice by smiling to her but I couldn't. Fear flowed through my whole body. She moved her eyes away from me and she went back to her house and I did the same thing but I wanted to stay. Oh how I wanted that moment to last forever.
When my father got home, I was still keeping the moment that Demi stared at me, imagining again and again the feeling when we talked about useless stuff and laugh about things that only the two of us could understand. I know for Demi it was nothing but It means the whole world to me that I could see her perfectly safe. I desperately wanted to tell somebody, but I knew I couldn't and Dad wouldn't be too happy to know this encounter. I kept my mouth shut.
In the front hall, Dad stomped in. Even though he hadn't seen me in the kitchen, he called, "Dinner smells good, Selena"
He came into the kitchen and patted me on the head. His eyes looked tired behind his glasses, but he smiled. "Where's your mother? Painting?" He chucked his coat over a chair.
"Does she ever stop?" I narrowed my eyes at his coat.
He retrieved it with an affable smile and called up the stairs. "Sweety, time for dinner!" His use of their nickname for each other confirmed his good mood.
"Selena, have you been a good girl?" he said "I hope you didn't use any of your powers, stupidly." His eyes widened.
"No dad," I smiled. "In fact I've been using it to save D-" I was supposed to say Demi. It was a close one.
I cleared my throat and shook my head. "I mean others"
Mom appeared in the yellow kitchen. I was saved in my conversation with Dad. Mom was out of breath from running down the stairs - she never walked anywhere - and there was a streak of green paint on her cheekbone.
Dad kissed her, avoiding the paint. "How about you sweety, Have you been a good girl?3"
She batted her eyelashes. She had a look on her face like she already knew what he was going to say. "The best."
Dad smiled and he cleared his throat. "Ladies and gentlemen, my raise takes effect this Friday. So..."
Mom clapped her hands and whirled in a circle, watching herself in the hall mirror as she spun.

Chapter 2 My Secret
After countless hours of arguments about other people having powers like I do, We both decided to finally stop and seriously I needed to finish my homework.I looked at the mushrooms that she was chopping earlier. It looks really obliterated.
Sighing, I pushed my math book across the kitchen table and joined Mom at the cutting board.
"Let me do it. You're just messing up."
She didn't protest and I hadn't expected her to. Instead She rewarded me with a smile and whirled away as if she'd been waiting for me to notice the pitiful job she was doing.
"If you finish making dinner," She said. "I'll love you forever"
I made a face and took the knife from her.
"Thanks sweetie," She kissed me on my cheek.
"I'll be on the studio."
Shoving the mutilated mushrooms into a bowl. I looked at the clock hanging on the bright yellow wall. Still an hour until Dad would be home from work. I had plenty of Time to make dinner and maybe, afterward, to try and catch a glimpse of my neighbor, Demi.
There was some sort of cut of beef on the fridge that was probably supposed to go with the mushrooms. I pulled it out and slapped it on the cutting board. In the background. an "expert" on the news said that these anonymous deaths of people were made by frenzied ghosts that were forgotten by their relatives and have come to claim the souls of those who had forgotten them. The whole thing just put me in a bad mood.
The phone rang. "Hello?"
"Hiya, What's up?"
Taylor Swift. i was glad to hear from her; she was the exact opposite of my mother - totally organized and great on follow through. She made me feel less like an alien. I shoved the phone between my ear and my shoulder and chopped the beef as I talked, saving a piece the size of my fist for later. "Just making dinner and watching the stupid news"
She knew immediately what I was talking about . "I know, Talk about surreal, right? It seems like they just can't get enough of it. It's kind of gross, really - I mean, why can't they just shut up and let us get over it? It's bad enough going to school and hearing about it all the time. Come on ghosts? is that all that they got!, Michael's parents have got to be just wanting the reporters to shut up.
Taylor was babbling so fast. I could barely understand her. I missed a bunch of what she said in the middle, and then she asked.
"Has Joe called tonight?"
"He's probably out shooting photos. Isn't there a meteor shower tonight?" She said.
Joe probably saw the world through his camera; Half of my school memories seemed to be in four-by-six-inch glossy colored form.
"I think you're right, Joe will definitely want a piece of that hot asteroid action" I said.
"Selena, got a moment to talk?"
I glanced at the clock. "sorta, Just while I finish up dinner, then I have homework."
"Okay. Just a second then. Two words, baby, try them out: es. cape."
I started the beef browning on the stove top. "That's one word,Tay"
She paused. "Yeah. It sounded better in my head. Anyway, here's the thing. My parents said if I want to go someplace over Christmas break this year. they'll pay for it. I so want to go somewhere. Will you and Demi come over and help me pick something after school tomorrow?
"Yeah sure"
"If it's someplace really cool, maybe you and Joe could come, too," Taylor said.
I didn't answer right away. The word Christmas immediately evoked memories of the scent of our Christmas tree, the dark infinity of the starry december sky above the backyard, and Demi. I would miss seeing her from a distance even though we have grown apart she had a world of her own now and so do I. I always had Demi for Christmas but I guess not this year.
Taylor groaned. "Don't do that silent staring-off-into-the distance-thinking look, Gomez! I can tell you're doing it! You can't tell me you don't want to get out of this place?"
I sort of didn't. I sort of belonged here. I sort of want to talk to Demi again. "I didn't say no" I protested.
"You also didn't say OH MY GOD! TAYLOR! YES!, either, That's what you were supposed to say." Taylor sighed. "But you will come over, right?"
"You know I will" I said, craning my neck to squint ot the back window."Now, I really have to go"
"Yeah Yeah Yeah," Taylor said. "Bring cookies. Don't forget Love ya. Bye." She laughed and hung up.
